I live in the heart of the South Wales valleys where once mining and the steel industry were the main source of employment for the people living here.
The village where I live is situated on the side of a mountain with breath taking views of the surrounding countryside with rivers on both sides of us which join up at the town of Pontypool the Afon Llwyd makes its way through the valley below to join the sea at the town of Newport.
Over the other side of the mountain are the town of Blaenavon and the Big Pit and Iron Works which are Heritage sites. you can still take a tour underground with some of the ex miners who used to work the face, or ride a steam train up to the whistle Inn and enjoy a good drink or a meal surrounded by the mountains and wildlife of the area.
The area where I live is also known as Cordell country as Alexander Cordell wrote books such as Rape of the Fair Country, Song of the Earth and Host of Rebecca, He wrote about the lives of the people who lived and worked here in the 17th-18th century and the hardships that they had to endure at the hands of the owners of the mines and Iron works.
